Over a half-day session, children will plan, make and evaluate a wooden whistle. They will be guided through each stage and shown how to use a variety of tools in a safe way. Children will use manual drills, saws and have the chance to smooth their whistle using abrasive paper during the lesson. If there is time, children will be shown how to 'whip' a handle using thread. Whilst this adds texture and further aesthetic appeal, learners will develop perseverance, concentration and resilience.
